New R&D and Manufacturing Facility

The Client

BD is one of the largest medical technology companies in the world. Their Irish operation is based in Research Centre Ireland (RCI), a state-of-the-art facility adjacent to the University of Limerick campus. BD needed to quickly expand and modernise the site by renovating an existing brownfield site.

How PEMCAS Delivered

PEMCAS provided civil & structural, mechanical & electrical, fire safety and health & safety services, working with BD closely throughout.

We generated detailed 3D models of the facility, enabling stakeholders to see the space and adjust layouts at an early stage. This also allowed for off-site modular construction of components, accelerating the construction phase.

We oversaw enabling works and demolition in parallel with the detailed design and procurement of permits for the construction phase.

Modular construction facilitated phased occupation and startup, managed by our team. In all, the project delivered 6,500m2 of high-quality facilities, all within tight deadlines and exacting budgets.

Key Insights

Modern modular construction techniques bring the benefits of lean builds to construction projects. Our expertise in detailed planning and modelling enables us to take full advantage of the accelerated timelines, reduced need for resources and other benefits that modular construction can encourage.
